What is domain age? 

Domain age is literally the time (age) that your domain has existed. The domain age contributes to the authority associated with the domain. For example, a domain that has existed for a longer period of time will gain more trust and therefore a higher rating domain authority. This is why it is extremely important when choosing a domain to think carefully about the choice and not to change it afterwards and thus prevent loss of the domain age.

When does an old domain name have a positive influence?

1. When there was a website related to your (new) website
2. When a strong backlink profile exists

Buying an old domain name because of the domain age only has a positive effect on the position in Google if the website that you are going to place on this domain is relevant to the former website that was on the domain. In addition, it is of course also important to check other factors; Has the domain had a penalty in the past? Has the domain performed well in the past?

Nowadays it is very easy to check the domain age. For example, you can check the age of a Dutch domain name with the WHOIS tool on the website SIDN.
