To direct more customers or users to your website, it is important to be found by search engines. One of the best ways to appear high in search results is through keywords. These words should be used strategically on your website and they should be relevant to your users.

Which keywords are important for my website?

Before you start creating content, ask yourself which keywords are relevant. In other words: which words do people type into Google to end up at your website? To find out, it is best to contact different channels. For example, you can ask existing customers which keywords they consider essential or you can brainstorm with your own employees about which terms are relevant to their industry.

You can also use Google Analytics to find out which search terms brought your visitors to your website. There are also many useful tools such as Google Suggest, Amazon Suggest, YouTube Suggest, and so on. In these tools you can enter a keyword, after which you will see a list of relevant search terms. Also take a look at Google itself for the autocomplete function or for the related search terms that Google suggests on its search pages.

To get the most complete picture possible of the appropriate keywords, it is best to do extensive research. Please note that this can change again and again. The search terms that are popular this year may not be popular next year.

How do I use keywords?

Once you've collected a list of the keywords you want to use, you can start writing content. You can use the terms found in blog posts, in an informative page or via an FAQ. This is a choice you make yourself, as long as you focus on the relevant topics and keywords.

Do you have to write content in which you use your search terms continuously? Absolutely not! First and foremost, your content must be attractive and relevant. If your content is not interesting, your reader will immediately drop out. If many users quickly click away from your website, you will drop in the search engine rankings. So you won't get far with just plain meaningless page filling. Focus on writing an interesting text using some relevant terms, which you place in a strategic place (for example titles). By using synonyms you ensure variation in your text, which is interesting for your reader and is again picked up by search engines.

Strategic use of titles and keywords

Valuable content alone is not enough. Make sure that your website is structured transparently enough. Are your page titles relevant? Do you use targeted meta tags? Do your images have a relevant name? Are your subtitles clear and meaningful enough? The way your website is structured affects your visibility.

Content for search engines or for people?

It is therefore important to find a good balance between keyword-transparent text and a substantively interesting contribution for your reader. If you offer real added value, your reader will stay longer on your website. This will ultimately lead to more conversion.
